Books, Books, and More Books

Because I have so many active books in the Take Control series, it may seem like I’m updating them all the time. It seems that way to me, too! However, I have a flurry of update activity with the release of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and the upcoming appearance of the production version of macOS 12 Monterey. (All my books are updated with the latest public betas of Monterey, which are very close to what we’ll get in the release versions.)

The latest books, in order of newness:

  • Take Control of Your Apple ID, Third Edition: This update extensively revises the Apple ID/iCloud recovery process. Apple now has three separate methods of account or data recovery, one of which has two unique options. I explain all that, plus changes in iCloud+ and other services. The book is full of troubleshooting advice for your Apple ID account.
  • Take Control of Securing Your Mac: For the first time in years, Apple didn’t overhaul how macOS secures its system files. This update brings the book into sync with macOS 12 Monterey. If you’re looking for comprehensive advice on Mac security, privacy, and data integrity, get a copy!
  • Take Control of iOS & iPadOS Privacy and Security: The latest updates for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and iCloud+.
  • Take Control of Find My and AirTags: A thorough rundown of Apple’s three interlocked location discovery systems, all named Find My, that help you share your location with others and find missing equipment. The book focuses on practical issues and, particularly, your privacy and safety.

Coming soon:

  • Take Control of Your M-Series Mac: We have delayed the update to this book until after Apple’s October 19 event at which we expect to hear about new M-series Macs, including an M1X or M2 processor. Some aspects of Monterey remain unsettled, too, and we need to test with a production release to ensure our low-level advice remains correct or is revised.
  • Take Control of Wi-Fi Networking and Security: I expect to release an update in November that brings the book in sync with iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12, and Windows 11, as well as including all the new details about Wi-Fi 6E, the 6 GHz version of Wi-Fi now rolling out in the United States and a few other countries.
  • Take Control of Home Security Cameras: An update later in the year will include the latest cameras, some operating system updates, and general improvements.

Other actively updated books:

  • Take Control of Zoom, Second Edition: Everything you need to know about Zoom all in one place.
  • Take Control of Cryptocurrency: Trying to understand Bitcoin, Ethereum, the blockchain, and more? I lay it all out for you. This is not a guide to investment, but a guide to understanding a transformation in finance—and how to be skeptical and safe about it.
