Take Control of Untangling Connections

My latest book is out: Take Control of Untangling Connections! This one is about troubleshooting and understanding the ports, cables, plugs, and standards involved in connecting stuff to your computers, mobiles devices, and other hardware. You can download an excerpt and view the table of contents and other information at the book’s catalog page.

Here’s how we describe it:

“Frustrated with your peripheral cables? Tangled up in standards and compatibility? Glenn Fleishman figuratively cuts through the mess of ports, cables, and protocols with his new book, Take Control of Untangling Connections. The book sets out to answer the most common questions and troubleshoot frequently occurring problems. You’ll learn how to buy the best cable, identify the cables you have, and recognize and research ports. You get all the answers on how to connect USB, Thunderbolt, Ethernet, DisplayPort, HDMI, and audio at the fastest, best, or highest-fidelity method available.”

I’m in the process of making a video that will help illustrate and explain what roadblocks you can hit with USB and Thunderbolt cables, one of the biggest problems people face and ask me about regularly. The video will be out soon, but the audio portion is edited and ready. I figured I’d make that available as an audio streaming file and download if you’d like to listen! I’ll post an updated link with the video when it’s complete.
